About the founder
Emma O'Connell established SEND Support at the end of 2025 after more than 10 years working as a teacher across mainstream education, alternative provisions and specialist schools in Hampshire and Berkshire, UK.
Emma graduated from the University of Winchester in 2015 with a Bachelor of Education (Hons) in Primary Education. Since then, she has worked in a variety of schools across Reading, including a PRU (Pupil Referral Unit) and a special school for children with SLD (severe learning difficulties) and PMLD, and the wider county. More recently she has focused on students with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) and carries out private tutoring services in students' homes. She also spent a year teaching in a school in south-west France before beginning her degree. These experiences have shaped her inclusive, flexible and child-centred approach to supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Emma has been passionate about helping every child achieve meaningful outcomes throughout her career. For some, this has meant academic success; for others it has involved developing purposeful communication, building confidence and independence or securing the right specialist placement. Emma has extensive experience working on a one-to-one basis with children who demonstrate a wide range of needs - and she is known for tailoring her support to each individual child and their family.
Alongside her teaching degree, Emma holds a SEND diploma and is trained in Makaton levels 1-4. She has also completed additional specialist training including supporting individuals with feeding difficulties and a course focussed on sleep. These additional qualifications have enabled her to take an all-round approach to supporting children and families.
